From the Pastor’s Desk
Friends and Family at First Southern,
Wow! What a wonderful service we enjoyed on Sunday the 27th! I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for the support you have given my family and I. We definitely feel as though we are on a honeymoon! My prayer is that together we will be able to take the excitement we feel and the love we share and use it to further God’s kingdom by showing our friends, neighbors and coworkers that same excitement and love.
Now that the anxious anticipation for me is over and we have begun our ministry together, it is time for me to get to work! If there is a need that you have, or if you would like to have a visit with me, please do not hesitate to let me know. Part of our church’s mission is to be of service to those around us. I would ask that you give us the opportunity to fulfill that mission by making us aware of your needs.
I know I keep repeating myself, but thank you all again for the wonderful welcome that you have extended to my family. You have truly modeled Galatians 6:10 – “Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.”
We have already come to love this great church and look forward to serving with you in the years to come!
God bless you all,
Pastor Mark
Praise Team We have had changes with new people joining the team, neat. I would like to extend an open invitation to anyone who feels led to join the Worship Team to contact me, we do have room. I am looking forward with excitement to working with Shannon and Pastor Mark. We are planning to make some equipment changes ASAP. Some of the changes would be a new lap top for worship, moving Tom to back of sanctuary and a new projector that would put words on back east wall. I would like to thank Jill for helping with the special services, things have went so well, God was Glorified. I am currently prayerfully planning the music for VBS which involves learning the actions to some very cool songs. Current worship team members include Jill S, Effie, Sue, Tracy, Sandra and our latest Cindy Walker. It sounds like Brady Walker may be joining soon. Thank you all for your willingness to serve and bless us with your voices. I hope that if anyone has thoughts that would help in our worship feel free to contact me. Some thoughts for the future would be to have an acoustic evening Worship. We would lead music with guitar and piano plus other instruments. I would like to have more skits to add to our services. These are very exciting times I thank God for allowing me to be part of His work in Larned. -- Mike Limon

Something in the Air Do you remember the excitement that was in the air when the new fellowship hall was being built? It seemed that everyone wanted to help and be apart of what was happening at First Southern. So what’s happening now that so many are talking about? Some say it’s like a breath of fresh air, others say it is our new pastor. We see people walking around with smiles and more want to get involved. As much as I am tempted to give Pastor Mark the credit, I know what is happening. Jesus the King of King’s and the Lord of Lord’s has looked our way. And even though we don’t deserve it, he has decided again to bless our church in a special way.
Now more than ever is the time I need to be faithful to Christ. What does he want from me, how does he want me to respond to his love and kindness? What more can I do in our church, how can I support and love our new pastor and his family. Should I reconsider my giving and in faith give more generously.
Wonder what our pastor would do if in the next few weeks, every day someone would call and ask how they could be more involved in the church, or if they could come by and pray with him or go on visitation with him.
Yep! You guessed it, I am excited about what is happening in our church and I am excited about what God is going to do in our church and through our new pastor. I wonder just what will it be. My guess is that it will involve more coming to know Christ; People learning how to have a deeper meaningful relationship with Christ; Great times playing and working together as brothers and sisters in Christ; Reaching our to people in our community and meeting needs; And wonderful meaningful times of worship. VBS VBS VBS VBS VBS VBS VBS VBS is this month and all the workers are very excited. Our theme is Hawaiian, Tropical, and our study is on Living God's Unshakeable Truths. It promises to be a great week! Please begin now to pray for all of the children that will be there and those that won't. Pray for all of the workers, and me. We are getting a late start due to the fabulous month we had last month, new preacher and all. Oh, and pray for the preacher, I'm not sure he is ready for me during VBS.
We have many new and exciting things this year. We are going to have our first day of VBS on Sunday, May 25th. The children will have Wave 1 of the week during Sunday School. This should not affect the adult classes. Then, during our morning worship, we will be combining VBS worship with regular worship. It's going to be great fun and afterwards we will go to fellowship hall for a potluck luau including some games.
Our VBS will continue Tuesday thru Friday, May 27th - May 30th, from 6:30pm until 9:00pm. Our family night will be on Friday. We would like to invite the whole church to come to worship on the 25th, any time during the week to help out or just to hang out and then for the Family night on Friday.
Kids, start now asking your friends. Every child who is here on Sunday will receive a free VBS t-shirt (good camp clothes). -- Cindy Walker, Lead Island Tour Guide
